Raise your hand if you’ve ever heard…
- You must write long-form content,
- Your content needs to be 10x compared to everything else out there, or
- You need to create skyscraper content.
I know I have. And let me tell you a dirty lil’ secret…
It’s a lie from the far reaches of marketers’ hell.
Oh, of course there’s some truth to it. But that’s the worst kind of a lie.
Look — Rand Fishkin, Brian Dean, and other marketers who wave the “create killer content” flag aren’t malicious.
In fact, I believe it’s quite the opposite. Creating killer content is what put me on the map.
So what’s the problem?
Simple. Just like every other blog post you have, hitting publish ain’t a magical wand.
Consider these articles I wrote (under 500 words, no less):
That’s a lot of shares and comments. And if you are wondering, my list wasn’t all that big either (around 250 when those articles were written). Crazy, no?
I’m not here to blow smoke up your dress. If you want to make an impact, you need to get out there and start promoting your content.
If you are creating just so-so content, become a master wordsmith.
If you are a terrible cook, take cooking lessons at a local college or university.
If you are a crappy speaker, try doing an acting class.
But if you are a true artist… If you are creating great work, then we need you to get out there and share your art with the world.
